Can Dehydration Cause Hemorrhoids?

How much water should you drink to avoid dehydration?

Experts advise drinking about two liters of water daily to avoid the risk of dehydration. You can drink a full glass of water when you wake up in the morning, and then drink a glass every hour throughout the day. Regular hydration of the body will also help in softening the stools and curb constipation. Water also helps in clearing out the toxins from the body effectively. Drinking enough water and avoiding caffeinated drinks as a source of fluids is a major step towards curbing the risk of developing hemorrhoids.

Natural Preventive Measures For Treating Hemorrhoids

It is advisable to not consume aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications. This is because such medication tends to increase bleeding from the hemorrhoids. There are a number of treatments available that are aimed at treating bleeding hemorrhoids. Some of these are as follows:
  • Witch Hazel: The symptoms of hemorrhoids can be relieved by witch hazel in a number of ways. It generally reduces bleeding, apart from having a soothing effect because of its medicinal properties. Witch Hazel also provides relief from the pain, swelling and itching associated with hemorrhoids. This herb is not taken internally, but applied topically to the anal area. It can be obtained from drugstores in the form of medicated pads, ointments or as a distilled liquid.
  • Butcher’s Broom: Butcher’s broom extract is used frequently to treat poor blood circulation. Butcher’s broom has vein constricting and anti inflammatory properties, which enhance the integrity and tone of the veins. This is especially beneficial, since weaker veins may lead to hemorrhoids. It is generally recommended to be used in capsule form but can also be applied topically as a compress or ointment.
  • Sitz Bath: A sitz bath is a plastic tub that can be fixed over the toilet bowl and then filled with warm water. Soaking the rectal area in this bath for about fifteen to twenty minutes provides relief from the symptoms of hemorrhoids by increasing the blood flow to the area.
  • Fiber Content: Eating foods with high fiber content goes a long way in curbing the development of hemorrhoids. Fiber helps in the formation of bulkier and softer stool, which facilitates easier bowel movements and less straining of the hemorrhoidal veins.
